Address to the members of the Association of Private and People’s Museums of Russia from the Museum of Bryansk Maecenas

Dear members of the Association of Private and People’s Museums of Russia!

Our museum has been operating in Bryansk since 2013 and is the only museum in the Central Federal District connected with the history of patronage of arts and charity. The museum’s activities are aimed at fostering in young people a love for their small homeland, pride in its history and a sense of responsibility for its fate through the example of famous patrons of the past. The museum organizes excursions, master classes in Russian folk crafts, literary and musical lounges and family events. Since 2019, the museum has been a member of the Association of Private and People’s Museums of Russia. On 7-8 January 2024, the museum, located in the basement of the building at 62 Fokina Street, Bryansk, was flooded with water from the flat No. 2 above it. The flood damaged the exposition of the hall of Bryansk patrons of art, which contains exhibits dedicated to P.I. Gubonin, the founder of the Bryansk Metallurgical Plant, and to the brothers S.S. Mogilevtsev and P.S. Mogilevtsev, who gave Bryansk seven schools, three hospitals, the Spaso-Grobovsky Church, water supply and lighting. Everything got wet: walls and showcases, diplomas, photos, posters, children’s competition works. The water caused the ceiling tiles to collapse, the laminate flooring to swell and the doors to shake. Rarities were damaged: an antique chest of drawers with a mirror from the early 20th century, a mantel clock from the early 20th century and books. The video made about the incident of the TV channel “Bryansk Gubernia”

We appeal to all museums that are members of the Association of Private and People’s Museums of Russia with a request to help restore the flooded hall of the museum. Requisites for donation are available on the website of the Museum of Bryansk Maecenas blagotvfond.ru
