Welcome to the new member of the Association of Private Museums of Russia – The Vologda Childhood Museum

The history of the Vologda Childhood Museum sends us to the beginning of the 1990s, when the boy Sasha, who was “too old” to have toys, instead of handing the soldiers over to his younger brother, he asked dad to make a shelf over the desk, on which he carefully placed his toy army. This shelf was the beginning of the collection, which today has about 9,000 exhibits and unites not only soldiers, but also the most diverse toys of the USSR period.

A special place in the collection is occupied by New Year’s subjects: Christmas toys, stand figures of Grandfathers Frost and Snow Maidens, carnival masks, etc.

In 2019, the collection “grew” to the status of “museum”, and this museum opened its doors to the visitors on the eve of the New Year holidays.

There are currently four thematic rooms in the museum:

  • The common room (toys of the Soviet period, divided according to a time period and thematic principle).
  • New Year’s toys (exhibition of Santa Clauses and New Year’s paraphernalia).
  • Toys for boys.
  • Toys for girls.

The halls are decorated according to the principle of open funds, where visitors will find their favorite doll, toy car or teddy bear.

The museum has organized two photo zones where you can take pictures in the interiors of rooms for children from the period 60–70s (for girls) and 80–90s of the 20th century (for boys).
