The exhibits of the Magnetic Compasses Private Museum are presented at the 101 Russian Magnetic Compasses exhibition in the RSL

The 101 Russian Magnetic Compasses exhibition is being held in the cartographic publications department reading room. The exhibits are from Mikhail Yuryevich Ivanov’s collection.

Mikhail Ivanov is the owner of the only collection of Russian magnetic compasses in Russia and the founder of the first Magnetic Compasses Museum. Compasses depicted in the photographs are only a small part of his unique collection, which currently has more than 800 compasses from different countries and eras. The collection began with a unique Pomor “womb” compass made in the second half of the 17th century, donated by his father, a hereditary land surveyor.

The exhibition runs until August 29th.
