The exhibition opened on the artist’s birthday.
The opening ceremony was attended by the stuff of the Department of Culture, the Art Museum and the Museum of the History of Sochi, headed by its Director E. Galishcheva, who highly appreciated the concept and content of the exposition.
Yuri Novikov (1946–2018) made a great contribution to the development of the artistic culture of St. Petersburg (Leningrad), Moscow and Sochi. His life, full of vivid meetings and joint work with famous contemporaries, such as Anna Akhmatova, Wolf Messing, Marc Chagall, Anna Leporskaya, Ilya Glazunov, Armand Hammer, Dmitry Likhachev, Evgenii Chazov, Sergei Yursky , Viktor Tsoi and others, is presented at the exhibition as an aesthetic phenomenon.
Some facts and events of that time are: the reconstruction of the 18th century tiled stoves of the Grand Peterhof Palace (St. Petersburg); the design of the interiors of the Russian embassies in Madrid, Vienna, Washington; performance of state contracts for government facilities of that time; creative work on the gifts of the executive class for the “Olympstroy” government-owned corporation, etc. All is presented to the public as the culture of the era.
Yuri Novikov is one of the leading experts in Russia in the field of artistic ceramics with a bright individual style. He is a prominent representative of the St. Petersburg school of ceramics, laureate of the Leonardo medal and the gold medal of the Russian Book of Records; nominee for the Guinness Book of Records; diploma winner of many Russian and international forums, and participant in more than 100 international and all-Russian exhibitions. More than 60 articles and monographs have been written about the works of Yuri Novikov, and more than 40 films have been made. His works are presented in many prestigious domestic and foreign museums, galleries and private collections.
After the exhibition, part of the archival documents will be donated to the Museum of the History of Sochi to its 100th anniversary.
