Private museums of Russia Expedition team visited the Yaroslavl Museum “Music and Time”

The founder of the Music and Time Museum was John Grigoryevich Mostoslavsky – a man who throughout his life has been fanatically devoted to collecting antiques. The beginning of the collection was marked by a small bell, which his parents gave him for his ninth birthday. This event was the starting point in the collection activity of John Grigoryevich. Over his entire life, he has collected more than 2,000 bells and chimes, about 600 irons, 200 samovars, 200 watches and other items. Subsequently, the idea arose to show his collection to people. Thus, on November 21, 1993, John Grigorievich opened the first private museum in modern Russia.

The Music and Time Museum is a complex of three museums and an organ-concert hall with 150 seats. The museums present a variety of collections: bells and chimes, musical instruments and various mechanisms. Royalino from France, clavichord from England, mechanical piano from Germany, barrel organ, numerous physharmonicas. And everything still emits sounds! They are supplemented by the music of gramophone and phonograph records with the voices of wonderful performers of the past: Fyodor Chaliapin, Leonid Sobinov, Enrico Caruso, Aureliano Pertile. In addition, the museum features exhibitions of watches, irons and household items.
